Alamogordo High senior class asks board for help funding graduation fireworks

Three Alamogordo High School senior-class officers addressed the board during the public-participation portion of the Jan. 15 meeting to request help funding fireworks at graduation.
"We are the Alamogordo High School senior class officers. My name is Dasia, and I'm the president of the senior class. We are here tonight to ask you to consider funding or helping to fund fireworks for our graduation ceremony," Dasia said. She said the senior officers would "love to continue the tradition of fireworks at graduation."
Class secretary Annalisa said the students were informed earlier in the year that the school would no longer pay for fireworks and that the officers had since attempted fundraising. "This is, of course, a challenge since we are only four class officers and we are very involved in other extra activities … and also have strict fundraising," Annalisa said.
Treasurer Curtis added that fireworks would provide "a nice conclusion to the graduation ceremony and would be a nice send off from Alamogordo Public Schools."
The students concluded by thanking the board for the opportunity to speak. The board did not take action at the meeting but acknowledged the request and thanked the students for presenting their concerns publicly.
