Interim Superintendent Michael Crabtree briefed the board on upcoming district programs and partnerships at the Jan. 15 meeting, including a Career and CTE Expo at Alamogordo High School and a newly finalized tutoring partnership with Sylvan Learning.
Crabtree said the Career and CTE Expo will be Friday, Jan. 24 at the high school from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. He told trustees 65 businesses and organizations have registered, including 25 groups from Holloman Air Force Base, and said the district is grateful for community participation.
On tutoring, Crabtree announced a Sylvan partnership that will provide a morning tutoring option at the high school Tuesday–Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and virtual support Monday–Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. He said all services will be provided free of charge to Alamogordo Public Schools students and will run through May. The district characterized the service as academic support aligned to students’ current classroom work rather than a one-time remedial program.
Crabtree also noted January is School Board Appreciation Month and thanked the five elected board members and other volunteers for their service. He asked the community to recognize the board’s volunteer role in district governance.
The board did not take action on any of these informational items; staff said they would continue outreach and return with participation and utilization data following the events.
