District opens enhanced 'Tiger Food Court,' expands scratch-cooking options

Student Nutrition Coordinator Sandra Davis told the board on Jan. 15 that the district celebrated a grand opening and ribbon-cutting for an enhanced Tiger Food Court at the high school that features multiple scratch-cooked stations and freshly prepared menu options.
"The Tiger Food Court is designed to offer a variety of scratch made food stations, each featuring fresh healthy ingredients and new menu items that will appeal to all of our students," Davis said. She described stations that allow students to build meals to personal preferences and stressed the district’s focus on fresh ingredients and age-appropriate menus.
Davis said the food-court opening is intended to build community and foster healthy habits; she asked the board to visit and provide feedback if they are available. Board members praised the improvements and said they wanted to schedule visits so all trustees could see the new facility. The interim superintendent noted that not all menu items can immediately be rolled out to middle and elementary campuses because of space and production constraints, and that district staff will pilot items at one site before scaling them.
Davis said the district will continue to gather feedback from students and staff to adjust menus and improve the dining experience going forward.
