Construction moves forward at Holloman Middle School; foundations and utilities underway

Capital Outlay Director Ken Barnett updated the Alamogordo Public Schools Board on progress at the Holloman Middle School site on Jan. 15, describing completed subgrade remediation, ongoing underground utility work, and upcoming foundation pours.
"There was unsuitable subgrade out there at that location, so we had to dig a hole 7 feet deep underneath the entire school. That has now been completed," Barnett said, and added that crews were working on water, gas, electricity, communications, sanitary sewer and storm drainage that will connect to the building. He said the team expects to finish underground utilities "by the end of the month." Barnett noted an upcoming single concrete pour of about 400 cubic yards as crews move into foundation work and said the district expects to finish major site work in May so staff can relocate during the summer and open the new building in fall 2026.
Board members asked whether construction progress schedules could be posted online for community review; Barnett said he would work with district staff to produce a shorter quarterly update suitable for the website.
Barnett noted weather has been favorable for progress this winter; the district will continue monitoring seasonal winds and dust control as the project proceeds. The board did not take action during the update, which was informational.
