District staff said the revision preserves the existing ability for employees to donate sick days to other staff members. The draft clarifies that donated days will not be counted against a recipient when the district calculates reimbursement for unused days, and that donors may receive pay for donated days that go unused, consistent with the policy language presented.
Staff explained the change reduces the donor’s balance in the district’s on‑the‑job incentive bank because donated days are subtracted from the donor’s available balance. The board was told the policy, if approved, would take effect July 1, 2025, and that the district will not change accrual rules mid‑fiscal year.
The board took no final action at the Jan. 13 meeting; the item was recorded as a first read and will return for further consideration and an eventual vote. Board members asked staff to gather feedback before final adoption so employees understand how the donation process affects both donors and recipients.
