On Jan. 17 the McAllen ISD board approved the ranking for Request for Proposal 2025‑1022 for a district facilities needs assessment and authorized administration to negotiate with the top‑ranked firm.
Deputy Superintendent Lorena Garcia said the solicitation was for a one‑year term with an option to renew for one additional year. Trustees passed a series of motions: (1) approve the RFP ranking, (2) authorize administration to begin negotiations with the highest‑ranked firm and to move to the next ranked firm if negotiations fail, and (3) authorize the superintendent to execute the contract once negotiations were successfully completed. Each motion passed with recorded board votes.
The facilities needs assessment will identify physical needs and estimated cost figures for prioritized projects; district financial advisers briefed the board elsewhere in the meeting on financing options and debt‑service considerations related to potential capital projects.
Trustees said they wanted the assessment results to guide prioritization for any bond or other financing plans and requested a clear schedule for delivery of the assessment so facilities planning and any voter engagement can be timed in coordination with budget and legislative developments.
