The Mentor Planning Commission on Jan. 16 approved a conditional use permit to allow a yoga studio at 8642 Mentor Avenue, imposing two conditions recommended by city staff.
Representatives from Petranzio Management presented the proposal; the commission’s approval included a second administrative condition noting the city’s admissions tax applies to admission-based exercise facilities.
John Simiele, representing Petranzio Management, said he and partner Julie Stone plan to open a yoga studio at the site and answered procedural questions about the application. City planning staff identified two conditions, and specifically pointed out that “the second condition refers to an admissions tax that is applicable to all gyms and exercise facilities that take an admission.” No members of the public spoke for or against the proposal.
After brief commissioner discussion, the motion to approve with the two conditions passed on a roll-call vote with Commissioners Crocker, Hadden, Perkovich, Rossetti, Teedeman, Vargo and Cook voting yes.
The approval allows the applicant to proceed to the building and occupancy-permit stage, subject to the two conditions and any tax reporting obligations related to admissions.
