The program includes a modest coach stipend ($100 per season per coach, with two seasons per school year) and ongoing maintenance or replacement support from the nonprofit. Presenters said the Bradshaw Mountain Middle School campus and surrounding open land make it a suitable pilot site.
The board discussed the program’s community component and said Wheelfun prefers programs that can expand into the surrounding area with parent and community volunteer support. Administrators said the program will initially be limited to Bradshaw Mountain Middle School students and may expand later if the site and community supports are sufficient.
A motion to approve the MOU was made, seconded and carried by voice vote. The record shows the motion was "by Dr. Gallagher, second by Vincent Muzong; all in favor; motion carried." Staff said Wheelfun will provide training for coaches and ongoing maintenance support and that the nonprofit can assist districts in building a bike-skills area if desired.
The board approved the MOU without additional funding appropriation recorded during the meeting; follow-up tasks include finalizing the MOU details and implementing coach training and maintenance schedules.
