Paradise Valley board elects officers, authorizes signatures and adds AI/social-media norm

At its organizational meeting the Paradise Valley Unified School District Governing Board re-elected Anne Greenberg as board president for 2025 and selected Tony Pantera as president pro tem, established the order of roll call by lot, and authorized all board members as signatories for the calendar year.

The board also unanimously approved the use of facsimile signature stamps and adopted Resolution No. 570 to authorize and ratify expense vouchers between meetings. During discussion of board norms the board added language asking members to "use social media and artificial intelligence responsibly and ethically to support the well‑being of the district." The new norms were approved unanimously after members discussed the need to clarify privacy and ethics when using new technologies.

Several members emphasized the value of modeling ethical AI use for staff and students; Dr. Amanda Lim said adding AI language aligns the board with emerging practice elsewhere, and members noted possible privacy concerns around some platforms. Mrs. Christiansen asked how "responsible and ethical" would be defined; board members said the norm expresses an expectation rather than a legally binding standard and that cabinet staff worked with the board to craft the language.

The organization items and norms passed by voice votes. The board noted the order of roll call will remain the same for the year and that any member may request an item be removed from the consent agenda for separate discussion.
