At its Jan. 14, 2025 meeting, the North Penn School District ECI Committee approved minutes from its previous meeting and voted unanimously to move several student travel requests to a future action agenda.
Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes from the prior meeting was made, seconded and adopted by voice vote with all in favor.
Student travel: District staff presented five recommended student travel requests for North Penn High School:
- 45 boys lacrosse players, one staff member and three chaperones to Spring Training in Kissimmee, Florida, March 14–18, 2025.
- 21 cheerleaders, two staff members and two chaperones to the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 6–10, 2025.
- 5–10 Key Club members and one staff member to the Key Club Pennsylvania District Annual Convention in Grantville, Pa., March 28–30, 2025.
- 23 Health Professions Club students and two staff to the HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) Leadership Conference in Lancaster, Pa., March 26–28, 2025.
- 32 Future Business Leaders of America members and two staff to the FBLA state competition in Hershey, Pa., April 6–9, 2025.
Staff noted trip costs vary and that many expenses are covered by parent booster organizations; district staff also said plans exist to support students with financial hardship on a case-by-case basis. A motion to move the student-travel items to action passed after a second and a voice vote of "aye." The meeting record did not specify individual vote tallies or the names of the members who made and seconded the motions.
Calendar discussion: Administrators previewed the proposed 2025–26 school-year calendar, highlighting a few changes from prior years tied to a change in state instructional‑hours rules. The proposal discussed at committee included:
- 179 student days and 191 teacher days (one fewer student day than in prior years, with an additional in‑service day for staff).
- An asynchronous staff in‑service day on Jan. 2, 2026, during which required online trainings (for example, Title IX or safety trainings) would have a consolidated deadline; staff may complete those trainings anytime between Aug. 1 and Jan. 2.
- A schedule change in February to recognize Lunar New Year in the student calendar (shifting a professional development day), and an early‑dismissal last student day proposed for Monday, June 15, 2026 (with snow‑day contingencies discussed).
Administrators said the calendar remains under review and committee members asked staff to revisit whether the final student day could be scheduled to avoid a late half‑day that historically draws lower attendance. The committee will reconvene on the calendar ahead of a February action meeting.
Why it matters: The travel items will be forwarded to the board for final action; calendar timing affects families, staff and instructional planning for the coming year.
