A district staff member said Shady Hill Elementary School in Marion County was the only school in the district awarded the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) model school recognition for the 2023–24 school year, and student artwork from the school was displayed on Florida’s state tree at the National Christmas Tree celebration in Washington, D.C.
The recognition and the national display provided both a districtwide honor and a chance for students to present art on a national stage, staff and students said.
