Local Planning Agency recommends tighter Saturday construction hours in Tequesta ordinance

The Local Planning Agency (LPA) for the Village of Tequesta on Jan. 16 voted to recommend approval of Ordinance 1-25, an amendment to the village code that shortens permitted construction hours on Saturdays.
Under the change recommended by the LPA, Saturday construction and other noise-generating building activity would be allowed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., down from the current 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekday hours remain governed by existing code; Sundays and holidays continue to prohibit construction except for limited public-health or safety exceptions. The ordinance affects Chapter 30, Article 10 (Noise), specifically section 30-361.
Staff explained the amendment was prepared at the direction of village council and presented the technical language to the LPA. Board members noted the intent was to reduce early-morning Saturday noise that can disturb residents and confirmed emergency exceptions and enforcement provisions remain in place. The ordinance also includes language allowing the building official to take enforcement action when vibrations or other excessive noise from construction affect neighboring properties.
A board member asked that the ordinance text be updated to use inclusive language in a single clause where the building official is referenced; staff agreed to make the change ("he/she" replacement) and the LPA included that correction in its recommendation. The LPA made a motion to recommend approval of Ordinance 1-25 as amended; the motion passed without recorded objection.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the Village Council for final consideration.
