The board considered naming options for the district’s new Early Childhood Center (ECC) at the Jan. 16 meeting and directed administration to solicit suggestions from the community. Board policy 7230 provides three naming options: accept suggestions from district students, consider requests to name the facility in honor of an individual, or have the board select a name.
Trustees favored a community process that will include students and families, and administrators said they will share a form and instructions in the district newsletter and other communications in early February. Board members asked that the form allow nominators to provide a reason for their suggested name. The board also asked legal/administrative staff to research whether monetizing naming rights for parts of facilities (for example, stadiums or rooms) would be feasible; administration said it will look into legal and contractual options and report back.
Ending: Administration will publish the nomination form and guidance; the board will revisit naming once community submissions are collected and staff reports back on any legal/monetization questions.
