Nottoway supervisors review animal shelter plan; architect expected to bid in February

Officials also presented year‑to‑year intake numbers for the shelter. The presentation listed 304 animals processed in 2020, 288 in 2021 and 508 animals processed in 2024. County staff emphasized those figures are part of planning for capacity, staffing and operating costs.
County Administrator Bowen said the item list is a draft and that nonprofit partners have indicated they may donate specific equipment or runs, but the county intends to include a baseline set of facility needs in the bid so the project is buildable even without additional donations.
