The Downtown Design Commission approved a temporary public-art installation for Kimball Art Park on Jan. 16 that will install two half‑court basketball courts, active goals and a protective mesh fence for up to two years.
Planning staff described the installation—by artist Edgar Heap of Birds and titled Noose for Oklahoma Autumn—as interactive and different from recent temporary works at the park because it will permit play. The applicant will pave temporary court surfaces during installation and remove paving at the end of the display period; staff said none of the park’s trees will be removed.
Commissioners asked about the fencing material and height; staff said the fence will be 8 feet tall and agreed to a condition requiring the applicant to provide specific mesh material samples to staff for approval. The commission approved the project with that condition.
Action: Commission approved the temporary installation with the condition that the fencing material be indicated and approved by Planning staff prior to permit issuance.
