Planning Commission to review updated bylaws drafted by city clerk

The Mill Creek Planning Commission received a briefing on Jan. 16 about draft bylaws the city clerk’s office has prepared to modernize commission procedures.
Justin (planning staff) explained the clerk’s office has been standardizing bylaws across city boards and commissions. The Planning Commission’s existing rules and procedures date to 1984; some related resolutions establishing term lengths and meeting time/place remain on the books and are now out of date, he said.
The clerk’s draft updates standardize language to match city code and include rules of procedure the commission lacks. Justin asked commissioners to review the packet copy and submit comments by the next meeting to the planning email provided. "If you have no changes to those bylaws, we'll go ahead and introduce a resolution to adopt the new bylaws and rescind the old ... procedures," he said.
Why it matters: updating bylaws will align the commission's procedures with current city code and provide a documented process for terms, meeting schedules and internal operations.
Next step: Commissioners were asked to review the draft and send comments to planning@millcreekwad.gov before the next meeting; staff plans to bring a resolution to adopt the updated bylaws and rescind the 1984 procedures if no further changes are requested.
