Garfield Heights board elects Mallette King president; Heather Morrison named vice president

At the Jan. 13 organizational meeting of the Garfield Heights City School District Board of Education, members unanimously elected Mallette King as board president and Heather Morrison as vice president and administered oaths of office.

The board opened with a motion to adopt the agenda, which Ashley Thomas moved and Mrs. Daniels seconded; the motion passed on a 5-0 roll call. Thomas then nominated Mallette King for board president; Heather Morrison moved the appointment and Miss Cox seconded. The roll call vote was 5-0 in favor. Board members then administered the oath; King completed the oath naming the constitutions of the United States and the State of Ohio and pledged to “faithfully and impartially discharge [her] duties as president in and for the said Garfield Heights City School District.” King thanked colleagues for their support afterward, saying, “Thank you everyone for your support. I greatly appreciate it.”

The board followed with the election of a vice president. Ashley Thomas nominated Heather Morrison; Miss Cox seconded the motion. The roll call vote was unanimous, and Morrison took the oath, pledging to “faithfully and impartially discharge my duties as vice president in and for the said Garfield Heights City School District.”

All roll-call votes recorded “yes” from Ashley Thomas, Mrs. Daniels, Miss Cox, Heather Morrison and Mallette King. No member voted no, abstained or was recorded absent during those actions.

The meeting record shows the board conducted these organizational steps before moving on to committee appointments and other business later in the session.
