Cedar Rapids Community School District said it will hold community meetings about its College and Career Pathways program on Jan. 30 at all three high schools to share program details and collect feedback from families and the parent advisory team.
On the same episode, hosts announced the district’s magnet school lottery is open through Feb. 21. The podcast spotlighted Cedar River Academy at Taylor Elementary, which the hosts said emphasizes sustainability, environmental stewardship, green-focused technologies and conservation practices. District hosts said a magnet information meeting is scheduled for Jan. 27 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the public library.
“These are being held at all 3 high schools. It's really just a great event, and an opportunity to hear directly from the program leaders,” Joe Larson said, summarizing the Jan. 30 Pathways meetings. Hosts said parents can learn about proposed academy courses and ask questions of Pathways leaders and the parent advisory team.
The podcast did not provide an exhaustive list of proposed courses or the mechanics of how Pathways academies will be sequenced; it directed listeners to district channels and the parent advisory team for further details. The Pathways community meetings and the magnet enrollment timeline are intended to give families time to review program options and apply through the magnet lottery before the Feb. 21 deadline.
The district said it has linked additional information in its newsletter and on the district website.
