CRCSD to hold public meeting about 2022 DOJ agreement on seclusion and restraint

Cedar Rapids Community School District said it will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 5 for community members to ask questions and address concerns about the district’s crisis prevention strategies and a 2022 agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
Podcast hosts said the 2022 agreement addresses the district’s use of seclusion and physical restraint for students with behavioral needs and that district staff have worked with buildings to implement less-restrictive, evidence-based approaches.
“They've definitely worked diligently with the buildings ensuring that student behavior management and the approaches to that are something that are evidence based, they're positive and least, less restrictive to where they have been in the past,” Joe Larson said on the Future Ready Today podcast.
The district described the Feb. 5 session as a public opportunity for residents to ask questions about the strategies and to review the agreement itself.
