WFRC invites corridor requests for FHWA-funded road safety audits; $260,000 available

Kip Billings of the Wasatch Front Regional Council briefed the TAC on a new opportunity: WFRC received federal funds to support corridor-level road safety audits under the Federal Highway Administration's Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
Billings said the program provides about $260,000 for consultant work to perform field reviews and stakeholder meetings to identify safety improvements that could reduce fatalities and serious injuries. He said jurisdictions should submit letters of intent for a corridor project that is already in a program or one they are seeking to fund; audits are typically corridor specific. Participating cities are expected to share a 20% local match. WFRC staff requested letters of intent by the end of the month and said the program team will coordinate consultant visits and field reviews with sponsors.
Billings described the audits as a supplement to WFRC's regional safety action planning work and said the effort is intended to produce specific recommendations to improve safety on candidate corridors. He invited TAC members to contact WFRC staff with questions and to provide letters of intent for corridors they would like to have studied.
