The Idaho Senate Agriculture Committee convened for a short introductory meeting in which Chair Senator Tammy Nichols welcomed members, introduced the committee’s page and noted materials and next steps for the session.
Gage Griffin, the committee’s senate page for agriculture, introduced himself and described his background. "I'm Gage Griffin. I attend Emmet High School, and I will be graduating with the class of 2025 this year," Griffin said. He told members he restores older cars and has launched a clothing brand focused on suicide-prevention and mental-health awareness, adding that the line is available via the Instagram account cyanideclothingllc while the website is under construction.
Chair Senator Tammy Nichols urged members to review materials in their packets, saying they include a 2024 performance report for the Department of Agriculture and the department's strategic plan. "Thursday, we will start on the rules review and my vice chair, Senator Christie Zitto, will be giving you some more information at that time on how she wants to proceed with that," Nichols said.
Vice Chair Senator Christie Zitto offered to follow up with Griffin about his suicide-prevention clothing line and related work. "I'm on the board of Bridging the Gap, a suicide prevention organization in Mountain Home," Zitto said, and asked Griffin to meet to discuss his ideas and experience.
Committee members used the introductions to describe their districts and backgrounds in agriculture. Senators who spoke noted a mix of production agriculture, processing and related industries across districts including Blaine, Lincoln, Jerome, Bingham and Canyon counties. Several members said they grew up on or have worked in farms or related businesses.
No formal motions or votes were taken during the meeting. The committee scheduled its rules review for Thursday, when Vice Chair Zitto will outline how the committee will proceed.
The meeting concluded after roughly 15 minutes of introductions and preliminary remarks; committee members were asked to review the provided Department of Agriculture materials ahead of the next meeting.
