Committee introduces change to exempt-agency plate rules and trip-permit timing

Austin Gujo, a policy specialist with the Idaho Transportation Department, presented RS31813 to the Transportation and Defense Committee Thursday, saying the measure has two parts: it would remove a requirement that exempt agency motorcycles and trailers display a specific designator and would require trip permits to be purchased before commercial vehicles enter Idaho.
"Before you is RS 31813, which has 2 parts. The first part removes the requirement for exempt agency motorcycles and trailers to display a specific designator, allowing agencies to utilize their appropriate designator," Gujo said. He added that exempt agency trailers would no longer be required to carry a small plate and that the trip-permit change would align Idaho with neighboring states.
Representative Petzke moved to introduce RS31813; the committee approved the motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Representative Clough asked for an example of an exempt agency; Gujo cited the Idaho State Police and Fish and Game. The sponsor and committee made no further amendments at introduction.
The measure was forwarded to print for formal drafting and further committee consideration.
