AOT demos VTransparency portal showing project maps, pavement and bridge data

Jeremy Reid, chief engineer at the Agency of Transportation, briefly demonstrated VTransparency, the department’s public-facing information portal, to the Senate Transportation Committee.

"Meet Transparency is our public facing information portal," Reid said as he walked members through the site’s project map, which shows active and planned projects within a roughly three-year horizon.

The portal allows users to filter projects by status (planned, active, under construction) and to click a project to view fact sheets that list project managers, schedules, costs and supporting documents. Reid showed the committee how to drill into pavement-condition data and the agency’s asset-management deterioration models, and he noted that bridge inspection reports and images are available on the site for structures that meet state inspection thresholds.

Reid told the committee the project map generally includes projects anticipated to be built within three years and that the portal is intended as a first-stop resource for constituents looking for project status in their districts. He also said the agency can provide district-specific project lists and more detailed asset-management outputs on request.

Committee members praised the portal as a tool for constituent inquiries and asked the agency to supply usage metrics and to consider adding speed-limit data and classification flags for state versus municipal roads. Reid agreed to follow up with the requested details and said the agency is willing to expand portal content as practical.
