The City of Corinth City Council voted unanimously to terminate an interlocal cooperative agreement (ILA) with Denton County that had related to reconstruction of West Shady Shores Road to a three-lane roadway between Fritsch Lane and about 500 feet west of Switcher Road.
City staff said Denton County will take over the project after the ILA is terminated so the county can move forward with engineering and contracting. Glenn Barker, public works director, told the council the city had not completed any engineering or design work on the project; the council stated there is no timeframe for the county’s work until the ILA is terminated.
The motion to approve termination of the ILA passed unanimously. No additional conditions or amendments were recorded at the meeting. Council did not provide a schedule for the county’s engineering selection or construction timeline.
The termination was presented as procedural: the county is assuming responsibility for the project and the termination will remove the city from the ILA so county staff can procure an engineer and proceed. The council did not report any financial settlement, design work completed by the city, or timeline for construction during the public discussion.
The council had earlier approved the consent agenda unanimously and adjourned briefly into executive session under Texas Government Code sections 551.071 and 551.072 before returning to regular session and taking this action.
