At a January 2025 meeting, a Bibb County school consolidation steering committee said it is narrowing options for possible school consolidations and expects to present potential decisions to the school board in March 2025. A town hall meeting is scheduled for Feb. 6 to give the public a chance to ask questions and review scenarios.
The committee emphasized that no final decisions have been made and that staff are still collecting data. "We are excited to share our updates from our January 2025 school consolidation exploration committee meeting," Speaker 1, a staff member on the steering committee, said. "It is important to note that we have not made any firm decisions at this point in terms of which schools or which communities will be impacted."
Speaker 1 said the committee is "starting to narrow down the options in terms of school consolidation or non consolidation" and urged residents to attend the Feb. 6 town hall so "you can get your questions answered and we can share more information." Speaker 2, a staff member on the steering committee, said the process began last fall and praised community involvement: "it's been so encouraging to see how the community has embraced this process and come out and been a part of it."
Committee members said the board will take any final vote; until then the group is collecting data and considering scenarios. No formal motions, votes, dates of board deliberations beyond March 2025, or specific schools under consideration were specified in the meeting transcript.
Organizers described the upcoming town hall as an opportunity for the public to review scenarios and provide feedback before the board meeting in March.
