The Community Preservation Committee continued its review of a proposed restoration of the rural cemetery water tower and asked the applicant to secure the services of a historic preservationist with roofing expertise and obtain a contractor estimate prior to the committee’s next meeting.
Kevin Miller and applicant Bill Condiff told the committee they will contact a roofing contractor with preservation experience and expected to have cost information for the CPC for the next meeting. Miller said the original roof appears to have been cedar shakes and that pursuing historically accurate roofing would align with Secretary of the Interior standards even if it raises cost modestly.
Committee members discussed whether the cemetery trust fund could contribute to adjacent stone-bed repairs. Sam Snodos, a commissioner of the trust funds who joined remotely, said the trustees would be willing to discuss the tower but noted limited annual spend (typically 2–3% of assets) and other pending needs such as a stone-wall repair. No vote was taken; the CPC asked the applicant to provide an estimate in time for the mid-February to March warrant schedule so the committee can act on or recommend the project.
