Nueces County Commissioners Court on Nov. 19 voted to canvass and declare the results of the Nov. 5, 2024 general election in accordance with Chapter 67 of the Texas Election Code. The court accepted the county clerk’s precinct-by-precinct report and recorded a request for a recount in the Constable Precinct 1 race.
The motion “to canvass and declare the results of November 5, 2024 general election in accordance with chapter 67 of the Texas election code” was moved from the bench and seconded; the court then voted in favor. The court noted that a recount request has been filed for Constable Precinct 1, that all parties have been notified, and that a petition for recount must be filed by Friday at 5 p.m. If the recount changes the outcome of that race, the court said it will reconvene that single-race canvass.
Commissioners also praised the county clerk and election staff for their work during the larger-than-usual turnout. “What a great job the county clerk and her staff did in running the last election,” a commissioner said during the meeting.
The canvass was taken while two commissioners were absent; the court recorded the motion as passed with no recorded opposition. The action establishes the county’s official certification of results subject to any change produced by the pending recount.
No other formal election actions occurred during the meeting.
