Nueces County Commissioners Court voted June 18 to execute a letter of support urging state officials to continue the Driscoll Health Plan’s participation in the region’s Medicaid managed‑care network.
Craig Smith, president and CEO of the Driscoll Health Plan, told the court the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) notified the plan that it would be removed from the region’s procurement effective September 2025. Smith said the plan serves roughly 78% of Medicaid members in the area and that removal would put about 350 jobs and continuity of care at risk. He said the plan is protesting the state procurement and has secured bipartisan legislative support locally.
Commissioners moved and passed a motion to send the county’s support letter, and the court adopted the request without recorded opposition. County officials said the letter is meant to reinforce local concerns with state decision‑makers and to support continued access to local Medicaid administration.
