Nueces County finishes interior renovations at Medical Examiner's office; ADA and parking work remain

Nueces County public-works staff reported on Aug. 5 that a series of interior renovations at the county Medical Examiner's building are substantially complete, and that staff will return to the court with procurement requests for remaining items, including ADA access improvements and parking-lot work.
Public Works presented before-and-after photos showing replaced ceiling tiles and registers, LED lighting upgrades, new floor coverings in office and back-of-house areas, painted walls and repaired awnings. County staff said the remaining work includes an ADA-access ramp and correction of a dip in the entrance drive; they estimated the ADA work at roughly $30,000 and the driveway/parking repairs at about $25,000 and asked the court to consider funding sources.
Public Works said it coordinated with the city on landscaping and will delay some planting until fall to conserve water and improve survivability. Commissioners asked staff to return with detailed procurement requests and recommended funding options.
Why it matters: The Medical Examiner's facility is a public health and mortuary-critical building; the upgrades addressed long-standing maintenance items and improved workspace conditions for staff and families visiting the facility.
