Sumner County panel approves recommendation to advance revised health and safety standards with 90-day container rule

Sumner County commissioners voted to give a positive recommendation on a revised Health and Safety Standards document that inserts exterior building provisions from the International Property Maintenance Code into Chapter 5 and sets a 90-day maximum for exposed storage containers, with the document to be reviewed by the planning commission and then by the county legislature.

The vote advances a package of additions and subtractions to the county's draft health-and-safety rules that county staff said are intended to make exterior building violations more prescriptive and easier to enforce than the previously proposed, percentage-based dilapidation standard. "It's more prescriptive as far as certain items being in violation," a staff member said while outlining the change to Chapter 5.
