County grant administrator Donna Lane informed the commissioners that the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) project to renovate space for a lower Rochester childcare center is about halfway through its grant cycle and requires a publicly noticed progress hearing. Commissioners scheduled a county meeting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29 and a public hearing at 5 p.m. the same day to satisfy grant notice requirements.
Staff said the project is a roughly $600,000 undertaking and that approximately $300,000 has been spent so far; the boiler has been installed and some electrical work remains. The hearing is a required transparency step that gives the public an update on project progress and spending.
A member of the public on the call urged the commission to schedule hearings at hours convenient for people who work 9‑5; commissioners agreed to set the 5 p.m. public hearing window to allow broader public participation. Staff will place the legal notice in the newspaper to meet grant publication timing.
