Solentrop said the sale follows the opening of the new Marion Plaza Library and that the county engaged independent third‑party appraisals over several years; the contract price reflects the most recent appraisal. The county librarian said the library board reviewed the agreement and that the county and the city worked with legal counsel to finalize the contract. Pending ratification by the board, staff said a February closing is anticipated.
Commissioners congratulated library staff on the Marion Plaza project and asked questions about the city’s intended use and appraisal differences. Solentrop deferred questions about the city’s planned use to Merriam city officials and said county staff would consult appraisers about differing assumptions if commissioners wanted additional details.
