Board removes certain Title IX‑related policies from consent agenda, asks staff to return other policy updates for review

At the Jan. 16 meeting trustees discussed a batch of board bylaw and policy updates. After public comment and trustee discussion, the board approved a set of policy updates but removed several policies tied to Title IX language from the consent agenda for additional review.
District staff advised trustees to withhold approval of Title IX‑related policies until the legal effect of recent federal court rulings and regulatory changes is clearer. Trustees agreed to remove policies numbered (as listed in the agenda) 410, 1312.3, 4030, 4119.11 and 5145.7 (these included nondiscrimination and related grievance language) while approving other updates, including policies on married/pregnant/parenting students and lactation accommodation. Several trustees recommended that a small board policy committee review policies in detail and return redlined versions to the full board; staff offered to bring a single redlined version for any policy that the board wants to place on consent to address immediate compliance needs.
