College Hill reports full capacity, new experimental-design class and workforce pathways to Corvallis board

A student representative and College Hill staff told the Corvallis School Board on Jan. 16 that College Hill continues to operate at full capacity and is maintaining waiting lists at both College Hill sites while pursuing curricular and workforce initiatives.
The report said a new experimental-design science class will be taught in partnership with David Hubert, identified in the meeting as an instructor at Oregon State University; students in the class will design and test experiments using fruit flies. College Hill staff also described a Math 105 cohort at Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) that meets together during a school block to build study skills and support one another while earning college credit.
Staff reported that Mr. Skillings, who leads the construction program, is writing a grant application aimed at certifying students as home weatherization contractors; the grant would help students gain skills to assess and improve energy efficiency for low-income households and increase employability if funded. The presentation said the program hopes to be selected by the Oregon Department of Energy for one of the grants.
College Hill also described urban farm students learning culinary skills through a curriculum that maps regional cuisine and geography and prepares related dishes. Staff said ongoing partnerships include LBCC and OSU personnel and that pilot programs were created by staff members named Constantine and Jeff.
The board heard these program updates as informational; there were no votes recorded on the item during the meeting.
