Lee County's administrator reported that the county is a priority for Illinois' broadband planning and that staff are pursuing federal and state funding for broadband and a multiuse pathway.
Jeremy (county administrator) told the executive committee that the Illinois Office of Broadband has identified Lee County as a high priority, with about 8,300 households classified as unserved or underserved. "That puts us in a prime spot to attract the over $1,000,000,000 that state of Illinois has for broadband infrastructure funds," Jeremy said, and noted the county is working with four internet service providers on broadband planning.
Jeremy also said the county is preparing a RAISE planning grant application for a multiuse pathway from the city of Dixon to Sauk Valley Community College, in partnership with RMTD, Sauk Valley Community College and the Black Hawk Hills Regional Council. He said this is the county's fourth iteration of that application and that the submission was about 15 days away at the time of the meeting.
Jeremy added that the county has received more than 100 applications for a new HR coordinator position and that a two-phase interview process was planned. He described the broadband and transportation items as active planning efforts and said he would keep committees informed as the grant and broadband planning move forward.
No committee action or vote was taken on these planning items during the executive meeting.
