Three employee groups file notices of intent to negotiate with Grand Forks district

The Grand Forks School Board on Jan. 13 received notices of intent to negotiate from three employee groups representing district staff: the Grand Forks Directors Association, the Grand Forks Education Association and the Grand Forks Principals Association.
Superintendent Mike Brenner read the memoranda and cited North Dakota law governing recognition and bargaining procedure. Brenner said a petition seeking recognition under North Dakota Century Code will be forwarded to the board for consideration in February.
The notices are the first step in the annual bargaining cycle; Brenner told the board each contract formally expires June 30, 2025. The board voted unanimously to receive each notice (9–0 for each motion).
Why it matters: Receipt of a notice of intent to negotiate starts a sequence of legally prescribed steps under state law that can lead to bargaining over wages, working conditions and other contract terms. Board members asked procedural questions about timing; no bargaining proposals were discussed on the record at this meeting.
Votes at a glance: The board voted 9–0 to receive notices from (1) Grand Forks Directors Association (Eric Ripley, president), (2) Grand Forks Education Association (Brady Olson, president), and (3) Grand Forks Principals Association (Terry Bohan, president).
