The bills read for the first time were: H.40, an act relating to licensure of freestanding birth centers (referred to the House Committee on Health Care); H.41, an act creating a felony penalty for abuse of a corpse (referred to the Committee on Judiciary); H.42, an act creating the Housing Board of Appeals (referred to the Committee on General and Housing); and H.43, an act exempting military retirement and survivor benefit income from Vermont income tax (referred to the Committee on Ways and Means).
The readings were brief and procedural; each bill’s title was read into the record and the presiding officer announced the committee referral. Sponsors listed during the introductions included Representative Chapin of East Montpelier and others for H.40; Representatives Burditt of West Windsor and Demar of Enosburg for H.41; Representative Stevens of Waterbury and others for H.42; and Representative Canfield of Fairhaven and others for H.43.
