Parents raise bullying concerns during public forum; administrators offer follow-up meeting

During the meeting's public forum Melissa Brock asked how the middle school is addressing bullying and what the district does to define and respond to bullying. Melissa Brock: "There's been some incidences that we've been dealing with as a family. I'm wondering what they're doing in middle school to for bullying and making students aware of what bullying actually is..."

Superintendent Dr. Croft responded that the district has multiple initiatives including the WEB student-leader program and a safe-school ambassadors program, and offered to provide the parent a written list of specific programs and supports.

Later in the public-comment period, Jason Brock spoke about his dissatisfaction with outcomes after meetings with school administrators and said his daughter continues to be bullied daily. Jason Brock said he had involved the sheriff's office and was preparing a letter for outside review. The superintendent and other board members offered to take contact information and arrange a follow-up meeting.

What the district offered Board and administrative representatives instructed those parents to leave contact details and the administration said staff would follow up and set a meeting to review the incidents and any letters the parents had prepared.

Ending Administrators said they would contact the speakers and arrange follow-up meetings; the board asked parents to provide documentation to support case review and reminded the public that specific complaints are typically handled through administrative channels rather than at the agenda-discussion portion of the meeting.
