MPO votes to add electric vehicle charging site at University Mall to minor TIP

The CCRPC’s Metropolitan Planning Organization members voted on Jan. 15 to approve a minor TIP amendment adding an electric-vehicle charging site at University Mall.
Christine (board member) described the federal NEVI (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) program and said the state has identified corridors and candidate sites; the state-level program will direct approximately $21 million statewide, she said. The proposed University Mall site was presented as part of the NEVI network and brought to the TIP for MPO approval as a minor amendment.
The MPO vote to approve the TIP amendment was moved by Christine and seconded by Chuck Wilton (second). The MPO vote passed with members saying "aye" and no recorded objections in the meeting record.
Why it matters: the NEVI network directs federal funding toward charging infrastructure on major corridors; adding the University Mall site to the TIP is a step that lets the state and local partners move forward on project implementation and contracting.
The TIP amendment is an MPO action; Commission staff noted that municipalities not part of the MPO portion would not vote on this item.
