The board asked staff to consult with the SCA, vendors and the senior class to determine whether a one-week earlier date or a Saturday ceremony would be feasible for future years.
At the meeting administrators said moving this year’s ceremony would be complicated by contracts and vendor commitments but that they would investigate options for the current year and plan a change for future calendars if stakeholders support it. The board approved the calendar with graduation left unlisted so staff would have time to engage the SCA and the senior class on potential date alternatives.
Board members also discussed logistical impacts such as room/equipment setup, conflicts with Regents testing and vendor availability. One board member suggested making a permanent shift to a Saturday ceremony so the school can run testing during the week and hold graduation on a weekend with less conflict.
Administrators pledged to report back after stakeholder outreach and vendor checks. The board adopted the calendar as amended to omit a specific graduation date, and staff said they will pursue options and return with recommendations.
