Staff responded that the sculpture itself was installed per the artist's proposal and that landscaping work has begun; staff said an informational plaque with scanning/website details has been ordered and that additional landscaping, seating options and safety considerations would be reviewed internally. Staff asked the committee to allow staff and the parks superintendent to develop recommendations and return with concepts for low-profile seating and additional plantings.
Staff noted constraints on lighting near the ocean and said major new lighting would require additional DEP permitting; they emphasized that any seating or landscaping additions must be vetted with the police department for safety to avoid creating hiding places. Committee members suggested simple seating such as low concrete "toadstool" stools or small benches that discourage prolonged loitering while allowing visitors to view the artwork.
Staff said they will consult with parks and bring back conceptual options for benches, low-profile seating and supplemental planting, and will coordinate signage with the communications manager. The committee did not take a formal vote; staff said the signage ordering is in progress and that further recommendations will return at a future meeting.
