Superintendent Scott Cowher told the Carroll County Board of Education that the district completed its Cognia accreditation materials and handled a formal 45-minute online presentation as part of the process.
"It was a wonderful night of recognition," Cowher said as he opened his remarks and later explained the Cognia submission and online review process. He told the board the district has finished submitting the required documents and will wait to hear the accreditation result, possibly in February, and that accreditation applies to the district and each school.
Cowher also previewed the district’s SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) outreach for the coming months. The board received a two-sided SPLOST brochure the superintendent said was produced in partnership with Carrollton City; Cowher said the district plans cluster-level community events, "snacks with the superintendent" meetings for district employees, and a series of public engagement events coordinated with the Community Foundation of West Georgia. He named a clergy breakfast scheduled for Jan. 31 and a chamber-hosted star student breakfast on Feb. 11, and he said district winners from the recent district technology fair will move to the regional competition the following week.
Cowher also noted some schools pursued PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) certification and highlighted several Title I recognitions, but did not provide policy changes or funding requests tied to the accreditation or SPLOST items during the meeting.
