Carroll County Board elects Carey Miller chair, Tom Sizemore vice chair; approves personnel after executive session

The Carroll County Board of Education elected Carey Miller as its board chair and Tom Sizemore as vice chair during a Jan. 13 work session and later approved personnel actions following an executive session.

The board opened nominations for chair; one member nominated Carey Miller and another nominated Dr. Bernice Brooks. The board then held a raise‑hand vote that resulted in Carey Miller winning the chair post (vote tally reported as 6–1). After Miller took the chair, the board nominated Tom Sizemore for vice chair and approved that nomination by unanimous voice/raise‑hand vote.

The board subsequently voted to meet in executive session to discuss “future acquisition of real estate, safety and security, personnel, pending or threatened litigation and recommendations that are exempt from disclosure under the Open Records Act.” The motion to enter executive session was made and seconded; the board voted unanimously to go into executive session. On reconvening, the board approved personnel actions as presented by the superintendent by a unanimous vote.

Other routine motions during the meeting — including placing field trip and fundraising requests on the consent agenda and putting an MOU from Louisiana State University on the consent agenda for Thursday’s regular meeting — were handled without extended debate.
