Kim Rees, representing the Friends of the Blue Hill Library, described the group's history and ongoing support for the library. She said the original Friends group began in 1981 before the library existed and helped raise funds, volunteer support and eventually donated the land where the library now sits.
Rees said the Friends run the library's book sales and that proceeds and membership fees fund library programs. She said the group saw a strong year in 2024, reporting the group "basically doubled our income and came in well underneath our expenses," and that membership and volunteer interest has increased.
The Friends reported they are seeking an outreach coordinator to manage volunteers for book sales and events. Rees invited interested board members or community members to speak with her after the meeting.
Upcoming Friends activities she listed included the first book sale of 2025 on Jan. 23 in the library Great Hall and the regular Friends board meeting on the third Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m., open to members. Rees encouraged membership and noted members receive five free books at every book sale.
No formal board action was taken on Friends activities; the report was informational and focused on volunteer recruitment and partnership for upcoming events.
