Estill County technical programs report industry certifications, regional competitions and CTE month plans

Estill County's career and technical education (CTE) programs reported progress on industry certifications, competitions and plans for CTE Month during the board's Jan. 16 meeting.
"We have 52 Estill County High School seniors that currently have industry certifications," Mr. Yost, the high school representative, told the board. The ATC reported students qualified for regional competitions in HOSA, TSA and SkillsUSA; HOSA sent 16 students to state qualifiers and TSA's regionals are scheduled at Eastern Kentucky University in February.
The ATC also said it received a grant to purchase specific welding equipment, including a bin tester needed for industry certification testing, and will showcase the welding program at the Kentucky School Boards Association conference Feb. 21. Staff noted that end-of-program assessments and industry certification testing will be held late February into early March; those results will inform career-readiness counts for the senior class.
Administrators said teachers and students have been active despite recent NTI (non-traditional instruction) days, with multiple instruction and assessment deadlines ongoing.
