Monroe County commissioners elect Thomas president, Jones vice president

Commissioner Jody Madera nominated Commissioner Thomas for board president and Commissioner Jones for vice president at the Monroe County Board of Commissioners meeting on Jan. 9. Commissioner Jones seconded the nomination and the board approved the slate by roll call, 3-0.
The vote followed formal roll-call procedures for remote participation. Mister Cockrell called the roll and recorded yes votes from Commissioner Thomas, Commissioner Jones and Commissioner Madera. The board did not discuss alternate candidates or propose changes before the vote.
The new officers will serve in their roles during the board's regular course of business until the next officers' election or as provided by board rules. The commissioners also announced a short work session to follow at 11:30 a.m. and set the next regular meeting for Jan. 16 at 10 a.m.
The election took place at the start of the Jan. 9 meeting; Commissioner Madera participated via Teams.
