Bixby opens new high school academic building; ribbon-cutting set for Jan. 27

BIXBY — School leaders, contractors and students celebrated the completion of Bixby’s new high school academic building during the Board of Education’s Jan. 16 meeting, announcing a public ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27.
Superintendent Rob Miller told the board and the public that the facility is open and is “a building for you and the generations of students that follow you,” and thanked KKT and Nabholz staff for their roles in the project. “We’ll have the official ribbon cutting next Monday … on the 27th,” Miller said.
The board used the meeting to show a video tour of the facility and to recognize partners and volunteers who supported the construction and opening. Nolan Orthodontics received special recognition for contributions to the district’s “Spartan Serving Spartans” campaign; a Nolan representative accepted a certificate of appreciation from the board.
Board and district staff said the move into the building occurred during the school break and went largely as planned. Facilities staff and the general contractor Nabholz remain on site to complete finishing items and punch-list work, district officials said.
District administrators asked the school community to attend the ribbon-cutting event, which will begin in the main lobby with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. They said they expect several hundred attendees and described detailed logistics are in place for the event.
The meeting included multiple student recognitions tied to the district’s extracurricular programs — varsity dance, academic champions and the football team — and presentation of “Spartan coin of excellence” awards to several students. District leaders said those recognitions highlight the district’s investments in extracurricular facilities and student experiences that will use the new building.
Officials asked the public to treat the building opening as the start of a transition period: Nabholz and district staff will remain engaged to address remaining minor work and to refine building systems as staff and students settle into the space.
