Senate sets Feb. 6 bill-filing deadline, adopts recess to Jan. 27 as special-session planning continues

Leader Johnson moved and the Senate adopted Senate Joint Resolution 29 on Jan. 16, providing for a recess and scheduling the Senate to reconvene Monday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. Members also set Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, as the deadline for filing general bills and approved a local bill consent calendar by voice vote.
Leader Johnson said the filing deadline for general bills will be close of business on Thursday, Feb. 6, and that the House has set the same date. He distributed a proposed schedule for the week of Jan. 27 and noted the schedule remains an outline subject to change if the governor formally calls a special session. "The important thing is we're back here at 3 pm on Monday, January 27th," Leader Johnson said.
Senator Jackson moved to suspend the rules to allow the local bill consent calendar to be considered; the calendar passed and the clerk recorded "32. No nays," indicating 32 ayes and no recorded nays on the consent calendar vote. The Senate then adjourned to reconvene on Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. as stated in the adopted resolution.
Senators were reminded of administrative timing: substantive senate joint resolutions to be referred to committee should be filed by Monday, Jan. 27, and the bureau had earlier noted filing and reporting deadlines relevant to statements of interest and campaign-finance reporting.
