Staff recommended the city purchase a LIFEPAK mobile cardiac monitor/defibrillator system on the state contract and requested a budget amendment to cover the difference between the purchase price and the budgeted amount. "$55,200 was budgeted for this item. It is on state contract. So we're recommending approval to purchase that with a budget amendment to cover the difference," a staff member said.
A staff explanation described the unit as an all-in-one critical-care monitor that includes defibrillation, oxygen monitoring and telemetry capable of transmitting EKG tracings to the hospital. "It's the complete defibrillator EKG monitor. You can transmit a patient's EKG tracing, telemetry to the hospital for review," a staff speaker said.
Staff said the city currently has other defibrillators and automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) placed in city buildings and vehicles. Council asked staff to add the purchase and the needed budget amendment to the agenda for formal consideration; no formal approval was taken during the work session.
