Board members at a Taos Municipal Schools meeting asked for a special-education update and discussed teacher housing and logistics for an upcoming meeting at the Pueblo.
A board member asked for an update now that a certified liaison for Native students is in place and noted community reports that some students were placed into classes without being able to choose electives; the member said they have heard “three or four different stories” about placement problems and had referred affected students to Patricia Lujan. The board member asked whether the district had data on student departures or grade changes since the semester shift; the board requested a formal update on special education at an upcoming meeting.
Board leadership said the district is finalizing agenda items and site details for the upcoming council meeting at the Pueblo and will provide directions and location information to trustees. The board also discussed arrangements for a Harwood presentation (presentation logistics and address were to be provided to presenters) and agreed to follow up if the presenter cannot attend at the Pueblo site.
On teacher housing, a trustee asked that the housing committee be convened so the board would have committee recommendations when the board resumes discussion. A trustee asked whether the housing committee is separate from the land/real-estate committee; the record shows that the committees are distinct but no changes to committee assignments were made at the meeting.
The board closed the session by moving to adjourn; members responded “Aye” and the meeting ended.
